Current Initiatives

ASMSU is firmly committed to ending sexual assault at Michigan State Universities, and has brought the White House’s It’s On Us campaign to MSU. ASMSU has teamed up with other governing groups on campus in order to provide education and awareness on sexual assault during the National Week of Action (November 17-21), and will advocate to ensure that survivors of sexual assault are supported at MSU.

ASMSU’s Academic Affairs department is currently working on a Grief Absence Policy. This would require faculty and staff to be sensitive to the bereavement process of a student who has lost a family member so that the student is not academically disadvantaged in their classes. In addition we are launching the ASMSU Student Caucus at the start of the spring semester. The Student Caucus is a facet of Michigan State University’s Undergraduate Student Government, the Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU), comprised of undergraduate at-large students. The purpose of the Student Caucus is to exercise the student voice within MSU’s Academic Governance system.

The Governmental Affairs department has been spending the fall semester working hard to engage student voters at MSU through registration and education. Additionally, we’ve been working with the state legislature to extend workplace civil rights protections to unpaid interns and have been preparing for out yearly trip to B1G on the Hill in Washington, D.C. to meet with the White House and Congress

The Class Councils are working to enhance connection within the ASMSU community and on campus. The Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Class Council are all individually working on events, speakers, and services they can bring to their respective classes.
