Over the past two months, I have served on the Presidential Search Committee which conducted over 20 input sessions across campus before a variety of constituencies. Each session was prompted with three questions that focused on the desired qualities of the next president, the challenges facing higher education, and the strengths and opportunities of our university. Many community members shared their expectations of our next leader and of the institution following the transition. These comments will surely be an asset as the committee moves forward with the search process.
The input sessions have ended, but the process of receiving input is continuous. I encourage those who were unable to attend to visit msu.edu/presidentialsearch to share comments or to make nominations. All submissions will be reviewed by the committee members and guide us in establishing a job description for the next president, screen candidates, and conduct interviews.
Concurrent to the official input sessions, I partnered with ASMSU college representatives to hold a separate student forum at each of their colleges. Joined by each college’s dean, our forums were designed to foster candid discussions where students could speak freely without the presence of faculty or staff. These valuable comments will not only assist me in being the best possible undergraduate representative to the Presidential Search Committee but will be used to craft a student-oriented vision for MSU and the incoming president.
With your help I look forward to setting a higher standard of engagement and empathy throughout all levels of the university. Take this opportunity to make your suggestions heard so that we can effect tangible change for a better Michigan State University.
All the best,
Student Body President
